Virginia Pilot: No-excuse absentee voting bills fail Va. House

RICHMOND

Perennial attempts to relax Virginia’s rules on absentee voting were shot down today in a House of Delegates subcommittee.

Three bills seeking to widen access to absentee ballots were all tabled by the panel, meaning they will advance no further.

HB786 from Del. Alfonso Lopez, D-Arlington County, would have allowed any registered voter to cast an absentee ballot in person without having to claim any of the excuses enumerated in current law, such as illness, job-related absence and military service.
