"The legislature passed a joint resolution, patroned by Del. Alfonso Lopez (D-49th), honoring the school for its service to students in the Douglas Park community since its founding in the 1940s.

The school was honored, in part, for being one of the few in Virginia to become a participant in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, and its role in education students from 41 different countries and 20 home languages."
