This could be the year that Virginia joins the rest of the nation and outlaws tailgating bicycles.
A House of Delegates subcommittee gave unanimous approval today to a measure (HB1950) adding bicycles and other non-motorized vehicles to those that cannot be followed “more closely than is reasonable and prudent” under state law.
Tailgating bicycles is already illegal in the other 49 states, Del. Alfonso Lopez, D-Arlington County, the sponsor of the bill, told the panel.
It’s a matter of simple equity, the freshman delegate said: Motorists should be required to be considerate of all other users of the road.
