That may be the reason Del. Alfonso Lopez (D-49th) wants action as soon as the legislature convenes for its 2014 session.
How soon? “Right away – in January,” said Lopez, who was among five of the seven members of the legislative delegation mingling with the electorate at the Arlington County Democratic Committee’s annual chili cookoff, held Sept. 3.
Lopez has a few specifics he wants to see addressed first: Restrictions on gifts to family members of elected officials, a limitation on the dollar amount of gifts, and establishment of an ethics commission.
“The people demand it,” he said.
