Also drawing Democrats' ire is SB1077, which directs the State Board of Elections to participate in a federal program to verify whether Virginia voters are citizens legally able to cast ballots.
Relying on that database to determine voter eligibility is troubling because it is "riddled with inaccuracies," is not meant to be used that way, and is incomplete, said Del. Alfonso Lopez, D-Arlington County.
Checking citizenship against the federal Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements program "could easily deny actual U.S. citizens their right to vote" due to outdated information, Lopez added.
