Del. Lopez to Host 2nd Annual College Counseling Night
An opportunity for parents and students to learn more about going to college

ARLINGTON – Delegate Alfonso Lopez (D-Arlington) will host his second annual college counseling night – Going to College: Answers for Aspiring College Students – on Wednesday, October 15 from 7-9 p.m. at Wakefield High School.

The event will feature a panel discussion with college admissions counseling professionals who are members of the Potomac and Chesapeake Association for College Admission Counseling. (PCACAC). PCACAC is a non-profit, professional organization for those who work with students in the transition between high school and college. Northern Virginia Community College’s Alexandria Campus - which is only a few blocks from Wakefield High School - will also be sending representatives to speak with prospective students.

“This is great opportunity for students and parents to learn more about the process of choosing a college, how to apply and where to find financial aid,” said Del. Alfonso Lopez (D-Arlington). “As a counselor at Washington-Lee High School for over 30 years, my mom dedicated her life to helping Arlington students go to college. I care deeply about continuing her legacy and making sure every student has the opportunity to attend college if they choose and to achieve the American Dream.”

“The program is designed for students and parents who want to grow their understanding of the college admissions process" said Robyn Lady, PCACAC professional development chair. "The panel of experts from both the high school and college side of the desk will touch on the college selection process, finding your voice in the college essay, completing winning applications and financial aid. Our goal is to get students and parents thinking about the process and encourage them to make time to attend all of the events sponsored by Arlington Public Schools (APS) - beginning with APS's 2014 College Night.”

THIS EVENT IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. Parents and students of all ages are welcome. If you would like more information about the event, please visit www.AlfonsoLopez.org or contact Del. Lopez’s office at DelALopez@house.virginia.gov or (571) 336-2147.
