VIRGINIA EDUCATION ASSOCIATION ENDORSES DELEGATE LOPEZ FOR RE-ELECTION IN 49TH DISTRICT
ARLINGTON, Va. – The Virginia Education Association Fund for Children and Public Education (VEA Fund) has endorsed the re-election of Delegate Alfonso Lopez (D-Arlington) to the House of Delegates from the 49th district. The VEA Fund is the political arm of the Virginia Education Association, a statewide organization which represents more than 50,000 teachers and school support professionals. For over 150 years, the VEA has worked for the betterment of public education in Virginia.
“It is important that we protect and defend the elected officials who have demonstrated their commitment to investing in public education,” said VEA President Jim Livingston, who chairs the VEA Fund. “VEA members will help re-elect Delegate Lopez and will be working hard to add more pro-public education Delegates and Senators like him this fall as we continue the fight to Fund Our Future in Virginia.”
“As the son of an Arlington County educator, I am incredibly honored to have the support of the Virginia Education Association,” said Delegate Lopez. “The VEA’s work in Richmond and across Commonwealth has been critical to strengthening our public schools and ensuring that every student is prepared for success in life.”
After his first session in the House of Delegates, Lopez was named the 2012 VEA Rookie of the Year. Moreover, since entering the General Assembly, Delegate Lopez has consistently earned a perfect score for his voting record from the Virginia Education Association.
