Delegate Lopez Honored with Virginia Education Association’s
2012 Legislative Rookie of the Year Award

(Arlington, VA) Yesterday evening, Delegate Alfonso Lopez (D-49) was presented with the Virginia Education Association’s 2012 Legislative Rookie of the Year Award

The award was presented to Delegate Lopez by Mr. Jaim L. Foster, President of the Arlington Education Association, “for his stellar legislative efforts on behalf of public education.”  Delegate Lopez earned a 100% on the Virginia Education Association’s Annual Scorecard for his voting record during the 2012 General Assembly Session. This year his score was the highest of any freshman legislator in the House of Delegates.

“Delegate Lopez has proven to be a crucial ally of public education in the General Assembly,” said Robley Jones, Executive Director of the Virginia Education Association. “I look forward to his continued advocacy and leadership in support of public education for many years to come.”

“I am honored to receive this award from the VEA, especially here in Arlington where my mother served as a teacher and guidance counselor for over 20 years,” said Lopez. “I hope to honor her memory and her service to our community by continuing to be a champion for our public schools and our hard working, dedicated teachers.”
