Lopez Lines Up Campaign Leadership in Delegate Bid

Arlington Sun Gazette

May 21, 2011

County Board Chairman Chris Zimmerman, Sheriff Beth Arthur and former Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Kate Hanley have been tapped as campaign co-chairmen for the campaign of Alfonso Lopez.

Lopez is seeking the Democratic nomination for the 49th House of Delegates seat being vacated by Adam Ebbin, who is seeking a state Senate seat.

In a campaign statement, Zimmerman said that Lopez “has dedicated his life to public service and Virginia.”

“A passionate advocate, he is prepared to represent the 49th District, and our values, in Richmond,” said Zimmerman, who lives in the district.

Lopez’s campaign also has picked up the support of School Board member Emma Violand-Sanchez and former School Board member Ed Fendley.

Lopez will face off against Stephanie Dix Clifford in the Aug. 23 primary. So far, there is no Republican candidate in the race for the 49th District, which in its new configuration includes parts of South Arlington and adjacent areas in Fairfax County.

The Lopez campaign’s Web site is www.alfonsofordelegate.com.
